Maria Velador Gonzalez

About

Maria Velador Gonzalez is a first-generation Mexican American daughter and student. She was born and raised in Portland, Oregon with her cultural roots stemming from Zacatecas, Mexico. Through her extensive experience as a program participant through SUN (School Uniting Neighborhoods) programming growing up and years later leading student programs such as Escalera and Oregon Inquiry, Maria developed a passion and commitment to increasing equitable access to healing and education, with an emphasis on addressing barriers to opportunity for youth of color.

Maria received her Bachelor's degree at Portland State University in Social Work and is currently pursuing her Master’s of Social Work at Loyola University in Chicago. Maria is currently an MSW Student Consultant at KLBRI where she hopes to enhance her skills in program development and implementation while gaining centered healing and abolition practices. In her free time you can find Maria dancing and singing along to music of her childhood.
